Capital Projects

The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors' mission is to maintain the
beaches and Marina del Rey for the recreation of the citizens of Los Angeles County. We
are currently pursuing many important projects to improve public access, safety, and enjoyment
of the County's beaches.

Beach Restroom Septic Systems Replacements
This project will replace septic systems and leachfields at 16 public restrooms at Zuma County
Beach, Point Dume County Beach and Malibu Surfrider County Beach. The project will
also replace the septic system and leachfields at a County Fire Station in Malibu.

Marina del Rey Boathouse
The Boathouse is located in Marina del Rey's Burton Chace Park and is operated and maintained by the Department of Beaches and Harbors. The Boathouse is a three-story and approximately 6,000 square foot building supported on an elevated pile foundation with three meeting rooms, one conference room, and restrooms. The Water Awareness, Training, Education, and Recreation (W.A.T.E.R.) program is operated from this facility, which provides children with sailing and kayak safety and equipment training. In
addition, the facility has been used by the Fire Department lifeguards and the State of California
Boating and Waterways for training purposes. The project will install an elevator, ramp access, and
drinking fountains to meet ADA standards; it will remodel restrooms; and construct a machine room
and storage area to meet current ADA requirements. The project will also include building
seismic upgrades.

Anodized aluminum fencing along the North Jetty

Marina North Jetty Fence
The North Jetty Project will replace 4100 feet of plastic fencing that stretches from Aubrey Austin
Park along the North Jetty pedestrian walkway out to the end of the jetty. The plastic fence
will be replaced with anodized aluminium.

Venice Beach Renourishment Project
This project will, with the use of large beach equipment, move 30,000 cubic yards of sand from the
northern part of Rose Avenue where the sand is high, to an area of the Venice Lifeguard Station,
where the sand is low and eroded from the winter storms of 2004-2005. It is anticipated that all
the necessary permitting will be accomplished by September, and the operation will take
place in September of 2010.

Venice Parking Lot Repair
This project will repave and restripe the Venice Beach Parking lots located at Rose Avenue and
Washington Street. The project will also include new drainage; and construction will only do
half of each lot at one time so that half of the lots are always available for use by the public.
Construction is planned to begin in October 2010.

Will Rogers Access Improvements
This project consists of the construction of a right-turn-only driveway onto Pacific Coast Highway
at the north end of the Will Rogers State Beach parking lot # 3. It will also replace the
chain-link fence in parking lot #5 and pave the unpaved portion of the sidewalk that leads from
the Castellammare pedestrian overpass to the newly construction restroom at lot #5 of
Will Rogers State Beach. The project will also redesign the drainage at the Temescal
Entrance to Will Rogers State Beach.

Will Rogers Coastline
The Will Rogers Coastline project will create a 26 space parking lot at Coastline Street which
will be a new parking lot for WIll Rogers State Beach. The parking lot was originally the lot for
the Jetty Restaurant, which burned down in the late 1970's. In addition to the redesigned lot,
the project will also add a view deck that overlooks the beach with an ADA ramp that
gives access to the sandy beach below. View aerial photo of Will Rogers State Beach.
